Generate questions with AI

Use AI on any plan to draft custom questions. Write a useful brief, review and edit answers, check your credits and troubleshoot generation.

3 min readUpdated Sep 2, 2026

AI question generation is available to signed-in hosts on every plan, including Free. In the Playground, describe the questions you want, generate a draft, then review it before hosting.

Generate and add questions

  1. Create a custom game, or select Edit on an existing set in the Playground.
  2. Under Add questions, select the Use AI tab.
  3. Enter a Topic or brief. Include the subject, audience and any boundaries, such as “Easy animal trivia for ages 8 to 12, no questions about endangered species.”
  4. Choose a Difficulty and select the number of Questions from the available options.
  5. Select Generate questions. The button includes your chosen question count.
  6. Review the preview, then select Add questions to add the generated batch to your question list.
  7. Check the full list and use the pencil icon to edit any question. For a new game, select Create Game to save the set. In an existing game, adding the questions saves them to that set.

The AI preview shows the first 12 questions when a batch is larger. Review the rest in the question list after adding them. Manual questions, CSV imports and AI questions can all be combined in the same set.

Regenerate replaces the current preview and uses another credit if it succeeds. It does not replace questions you have already added. Dismissing a successful preview does not return the credit used to generate it.

Supported games

AI can draft content for Trivia, Unscramble, Missing Letter, Odd One Out, Sub-Words, Charades, Taboo, Find the Mole and Song Association.

For Who Said It, write your prompts manually or import a CSV.

Each request can generate up to 10 questions for Trivia and Odd One Out, or 25 for the other supported games. These batch limits apply on every plan. You can add more questions with another request or combine AI drafts with manual entries and CSV imports.

Write a useful brief

Name the topic and explain what would make a question suitable for your group. For example:

  • Trivia: “Ten questions about European capitals for beginners. Use single choice, with plausible wrong answers.”
  • Charades: “Everyday actions that children can act out without props.”
  • Song Association: “Common words found in familiar pop songs. Avoid names and obscure words.”

Use the question-count control for the batch size. Asking for more in the brief does not increase the available limit.

Check facts, answer choices and hints before playing. For Sub-Words, check the accepted-word list: a word omitted from that list will not score during the game. For Odd One Out, make sure there is a clear reason for one option to be different.

AI credits

One successful generation uses one credit, even if it produces fewer questions than requested. Failed requests, rate limits and attempts that produce no usable questions do not use a credit.

PlanAI credits
Free5 per month
Party10 per pass
Pro50 per renewal
Enterprise1000 per month

Questions per request does not vary by plan: it is 10 for Trivia and Odd One Out, 25 for the other supported games, as described under Supported games above.

Free and Enterprise monthly allowances reset rather than rolling over. Party and Pro credits go into a saved balance. When you have both a monthly allowance and saved credits, the monthly allowance is used first.

Your remaining credits appear beside Create with AI. Select Top up or Buy credits to see available packs and checkout prices. Purchased credits stay in your saved balance until used. Typing questions and uploading CSV files do not use AI credits.

If generation does not work

  • The Generate button is unavailable: enter a topic and check your credit balance. Add or dismiss an existing preview before starting another batch.
  • Fewer questions appear than requested: some items may be unsuitable or repeat content already in the set. Review what was generated, then broaden the topic if you need more.
  • No new questions were found: try a different subject, period or category. Generating the same narrow topic repeatedly can exhaust its useful options.
  • A request times out or is rate-limited: wait before trying again. You can continue adding questions manually or through CSV while generation is unavailable.
